Summary of Duties:

The Washington State University Fire Safety and Emergency Management Coordinator is responsible for reviewing, advising and inspecting new construction and remodeling plans for conformance to International Fire Code. Performs fire safety and prevention inspections of Pullman campus facilities, coordinating fire drills and assisting with emergency egress planning. Establishing procedures for developing, monitoring, analyzing, and updating campus and campus organization emergency management plans, disaster preparedness and general campus training programs (including coordination on hazard identification and mitigation policies and protocols). Provides training to campus faculty, staff and students in emergency preparedness and disaster response procedures including training in Emergency Operations Center procedures, the Incident Command System (ICS), and the National Incident Management System (NIMS). Works with campus leadership to enhance capacity to respond to and recover from all hazards.


Required Qualifications:

  • Positions require a Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of experience with a fire department as a fire officer in fire suppression, or four (4) years as a commissioned law enforcement officer with experience and training in arson investigation. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have the ability to comprehend, explain and apply the uniform Fire and Building Codes and have/or be able to obtain and maintain the International Fire Code Institute certification for Uniform Fire Code Inspector 1 & 2 within 12 months of initial hire.


Preferred Qualifications:

Two (2) years of experience as a Fire Code Inspector or Fire Marshal.
