Position Summary
The Emergency Management (EM) Coordinator is responsible for the administration of the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s (UNO’s) emergency management program and emergency operations plan. The EM Coordinator will coordinate emergency response and crisis management activities, provide emergency preparedness training, conduct disaster drills and exercises, prepare emergency plans and procedures for natural, manmade, or technological emergencies, use technology for excellence in the EM program, and work with event planners for hazard mitigation and response planning for major events. The EM Coordinator reports to the Emergency Management division within the University of Nebraska Police and Public Safety Department (UNPPSD). The EM Coordinator is a self-driven, effective communicator who works collaboratively with University, local, state, Federal, and not-for-profit organizations to establish and maintain critical incident mitigation, preparation, response and recovery strategies, and ensures University compliance with federal, state and local laws, rules, regulations and planning recommendations. The EM Coordinator is required to react promptly, appropriately, and decisively in a crisis situation, and provide leadership when needed in an emergency.

Duties:
Oversees the on-going revision and maintenance of the University of Nebraska at Omaha Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan and its annexes/appendices, including Emergency Support Functions, and other emergency management plans, policies, and procedures for all of the main campus and satellite buildings, departments/units, and personnel. Coordinates revisions with changing federal, state, and local agency programs. Keeps a current resource list identifying pertinent outside agencies or partners and their capabilities.

Duties:
Keeps up to date with emergency preparedness issues and provides information to University departments. Assists University departments with critical incident planning, business continuity planning, strategy development, mitigation, preparations, response and recovery coordination and emergency preparedness. Assists in developing building and department emergency plans, and ensures that all plans adhere to local, state and federal regulations.

Responsible for regular operation of the University’s Emergency Notification System, Sharepoint and other Microsoft 356 resources, weather detection system, and GIS systems, to include coordination of data entry and accuracy, testing, and communicating needed maintenance of the system(s).

Required and Preferred Qualifications 
Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety, Public Administration or related field.

Required Experience
3 years of experience working in an emergency management role or other related experience. Superior knowledge of emergency management planning and practices. Excellent verbal, written, and technological communication skills is required.

Seven (7) years of experience in related fields may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree.. Will consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.
